Try'to Make It In Hollywood
Try'to Make It In Hollywooda lower quality demo recording of a laid back, slightly funky peice. My buddy Greg Szepietowski was just wanting to record a rhythm track and some leads over his rythm guitar to test my recording gear and after he left I wrote some words and did all the back ground and vocal arrangements - perhaps one day we'll do some work on it to strengthen the sections but its a demo idea. Try to Make it in Hollywood people flock to LA everyday suitcase of dreams, sidewalks of fame they see Universal Studios and mansions on the hills cameras and lights but no celebrities still People build their hopes up if they could just be seen they've got a face that was made for the silver screen if folks always tell you, you look just like a movie star you'll save every dollar and get there in a broken down car Guitar solo....Guitar solo and Guitar solo...with more Guitar solo...and finally a guitar solo...with a bonus guitar solo....and a fade...notice the drums stay up at the end...

This Time We Attack
This Time We AttackMommy Daddy, where are you…. Zombies are a nuisance in shopping malls, They eat the clothes off of the mannequins. Zombies are no good as drinking buddies, They get drunk on one beer and fall on their faces. Zombies make terrible waiters, They forget your order and bring you chopped liver. Zombies are rascals in gymnasiums, They chase pretty women in lululemons. Her majesty is begging all the nations family Do your country a favour adopt a baby zombie But they multiply at such a dreadful rate Getting pregnant- giving out on the very first date This Time.. We Attack I hate zombies and I wish they would die Don’t hold your anger back I’m gonna shoot a zombie straight through his eye The zombies are taking the politician’s jobs, They’ve got little qualification but they can flap their jaws. Zombies are driving school buses according to CNN, They hate screaming children so it’s great for them. My sister dated a Zombie yeah it’s sad and its true He looked nice next to the aquarium, his shade of blue But my daddy didn’t like him so he took out the shotgun And made a hole in him the size of Manhatten This Time We Attack I hate zombies and I wish they'd all die Don’t hold your anger back I don’t like Zombies eating my apple pie Zombies often gather in groups on Sunday morning Waiting for people to leave those little white buildings You know zombies are no better than the average mosquito If you’re caught in the woods they’ll eat you from head to toe (and that’s why I refuse to camp) This time...we attack! Don't hold your anger back cause This time...we attack gonna get some justice for Uncle Jack
The Sun will shine
The Sun will shinea song for my boys and their dreams, ..., wrtitten, recorded and produced Fathers day 2013 in s Wall of Sound production style - dripping lush reverb... Gabe, my 17 year old on drums, as he asked I let everyone out there in Soundcloud land who ventures to listen that these are one take unrehearsed songs. I sit in the control room with my mandolin and mic and Gabes in the large room with his drum kit and 8 microphones placed everywhere for balance. Hes' listening with his headphones that come out of the room I'm in via a headphone amplifier with multiiple outputs, so we play live but in different rooms to minimize bleed, in fact my rooms I built with 12" thickness double walls and space between are literally soundproof, so it works as I built it to...considering Gabe had never had heard this song before, and I love his drumming, its so exotic! Of course recording like this means mistakes are natural but hell if Hendrix allowed it then its fine by me - That's the charm I aspire for in these demos. LIke a first meeting, you only have one chance, and that's the final impression that builds the ship of feelings we sail on from that point forward. Everyday is like the first moment I saw you I can't say why so natural... beautiful the sun will shine the moon will glow the tide will rise and the wind, the wind will blow Everyday I see your face Its a feeling I can't explain that essence of your skin thats the day my life begins The sun will shine the man will glow the tide will rise and the wind blow, the wind will blow so wherever you are know that you are loved beneath the deserts of stars written up above the sun will shine the moon will glow the tides will rise and the wind will blow, the wind will blow everyday
Fathers2013 M Bell - Fathers Day...the one we "must" earn, the gift of being a parent. Written Saturday late afternoon for my Father and every father...we can only try our best, we may fail and falter at times being human. We need to look after these children we have and of course most of us thankfully know this. . Side story, I had written the song before going out for supper this night for my sons Birthday dinner at a resto and was happy it was done and I would only need to record it, I thought at least....fooled you see, ...before recording I sang it for Valerie and I was all proud of myself and the words hit me and I couldn't even sing them without welling up and I'd been working on them carefully and sang them before but not before someone. .I knew it was an emotionally high threshold level lyric as it was more of the end of the parents life journey from the childs side losing the parent...anyway, although I deeply felt it was a strong singable lyric I could see that by my wifes look and honesty I knew...I was off track in terms of the potential of the lyric and did a complete lyric re-write to get this demo done...it was a late night. . Finally, its not perfect but I'm a dad, I try but I'm human so the song for now will be that...human. Have a great day! Thanks to all the parents too who help and listen, we all can help each other through sharing our stories - I sure appreciate the advice. I ran to the door to see his face he had a new ball in his briefcase and we went down to the park and threw that ball till it got dark he carried me up to bed singing songs out of his head his voice was soothing and strong I fell asleep before he was gone Fathers aren't allowed to cry Fathers aren't supposed to lie Fathers are forbidden to say goodbye and leave their children behind Fathers are supposed to be by your side and stand up with us for what is right be there forever in our lives fathers are supposed to teach their children to fly I drove his truck sitting in his lap he let me wear his police cap he washed the car for my first date and said don't get her home late he always made time for me said number one was family and if I ever lost my way he said come back anytime and stay Fathers aren't allowed to cry Fathers aren't supposed to lie Fathers are forbidden to say goodbye and leave their crying children behind Fathers are supposed to be by our side and stand up with us for what is right be there forever in our lives Fathers are supposed to teach their children to fly...and they just might try He gave us everything baseballs, bats, slides and swings we'd sit up on his shoulders and see the world... he was so proud of his boy and girl Now I'm a father of two and I'm so proud I'm telling you I learned a thing or two but what a father should and shouldn't do and when I think of my dad it me feel real glad to think he's fishing by a stream catching salmon and catching a dream Fathers... Faraway Falling Star
Faraway Falling Star“Marius and Cosette were in the dark in regard to each other. They did not speak, they did not bow, they were not acquainted; they saw each other; and, like the stars in the sky separated by millions of leagues, they lived by gazing upon each other.” ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables Faraway Falling Star -by M Bell - Upright Piano and voice live take- you'll hear my foot taping while singing and playing...from the living room You can't lose what you never had only madness tricks your head for thinking so its not natural to fall in love with a stranger then again, how would we ever know? my only wish was on a....a little faraway falling star but it fell down and landed in my heart - where you still are it gave you a light that I couldn't see past it was so bright and I can't say whats real 'cause I don't know how you feel weekends end and the feelings return all that promise of another day to see your face started out feeling like we were on top of the world but it all crashed down like comets cause we left in seperate ways My only wish was on a little faraway falling star but it fell down and landed in my heart where you still are it gave you a light I couldn't see past it was so bright and I can't say whats real cause I don't know how you feel little faraway falling star

Let the Truth be Your Guide
Let the Truth be Your Guidea song that has all of the family on it as was my wifes wish for her Mothers days gift from the boys and to all the wonderful mothers, my own, my sister and all the super Moms I know out there who I can say inspire me everyday. You are the truth and you constantly guide us, have saved us, fed and clothed us and we always turn to you for comfort. Mothers give so unconditionally. On Drums Gabriel Bell, and Vocals Gabriel and myself, Electric and Bass Morris, Acoustic Dorian Bell. This was fun to do and special thanks to Dorian for his ear and leveling assistance for the final mix and Gabriel for his supreme patience. The drum and guitar was the first take and he is, without question, the best drummer and I am so fortunate to have these sons in the house. Proud Mother and Father of this one. Photograph - Valerie Bell 2013 Let the Truth be your guide(2013) My mother held me when I was a child she hid my scent from the wolf of the wild I clasped her breast with my infant hand and knew her love transcended the land Let the Truth be your guide wherever it leads(x3) wherever it leads to you I tried swimming against the tide so far from shore I almost died waves crashed down on my fragile skin a merciful mermaid dragged me in Let the Truth be your guide wherever it leads... wherever it leads to you In times of need and sorrow she raises dark clouds on her own she looks for me like tomorrow the north star will always bring me home Morris Bell 2013 Bell2Bellsongs
I have bad days and I have Fridays
I have bad days and I have FridaysFriday is a very important state of mind...we earn it...we believe in it and we never ever tire of it for we know it is so special. The day when we realize we will be able to be ourselves for the days ahead and take some time to breathe. This song is written for everyone I know and love and want to spend time with at work and play...you make my Friday every week! The title was created by Anne Patry who is a wonderful friend and the kind of person who makes work truly enjoyable and the minute I heard her say I stopped in my tracks determined to write this kind of song with this kind of feel and style so two weeks after hearing it, we now share this. Recording notes are below for technical interest. Players Gabriel Bell(my 17 year old son) on Drums all other instruments by myself - Photograph is Valerie Bell(my wife) this is what Friday should feel like at one point in the day at least. SabotageFrom 2006, this song is written by Grant Morden and myself. All the instruments were played by myself in my home studio. Grant wrote the great riff that gives this song a very hip feel and I admit I didn't quite do it way he did which is too bad, as I prefer the way he plays it to what i've done here but still I think it worked out so I won't beat myself up...I'll just lay on this Mies Barcelona bed couch at the Museum of Modern Art in Chicago and look at paintings of Van Gogh...and if anyone Sabotaged themselves for their art and our pleasure to love his work it was Vincent. Love you Vincent!
Gypsy Guitar Fireflys
Gypsy Guitar FireflysSong written by Greg Szepietowski and Morris Bell. This is based on great riff that is the throughout the song in its blues chord changes brought in by Guitar Virtuoso Greg Szepietowski. This song is dedicated to the feeling we have hearing great music and no matter what, including getting thrown in jail, its all ok...as long as you get to hear more guitar! On bass is Andrew MacKechnie and drums is Randy Powell and they really worked hard on this song and we have performed it a number of times to audiences. Also want to thank Ron Laroque for his support and encouragement. Also thanks to my son Dorian Bell for his valued input and assistance during the ardous mixdown task.
Just a Kid
Just a KidRecorded in the Bell Basement Studio March 2013. Gabriel Bell Drums. Morris, Guitars(s), Mandolin Bass and Vocals. New Lead Vocal recorded June 5 2013, the gods of vocal encouragement graced me with a bit more air to sing this song which quite honestly I find the melody challenges my range...I will not write and record in the Key of A again! That said I do like the acoustic ring of this key...its a very sweet and blissful plateau on the ear. Just a Kid(I hate you Alchohol) Music and Lyrics M. Bell 2013 Bell2BellsSongs Talking to yourself like no ones in the room Without a doubt our lives will change real soon You’re a tornado blowin’ down walls in the end everyone around you falls I just can’t wait for the day I’ll have the choice to walk away (Chorus) I’m just a kid no voice to stand on ,hardly able to help your figure things out Just a kid who watches everytime you fall and I’d hide all the bottles in the world I hate you alcohol What was Mom like I used to ask you all the time You said shut up kid stop your crying I always thought maybe you drank because it hurt But she'd never forgive you for blaming this on her Your not the only one who's life has been torn (Chorus) I’m not dreaming of normality I know that we’re a screwed up family The tears, the pain the days that lifes so insane I’m gonna pour your bottle down the drain One last prayer I hope maybe you’ll hear God knows we need a lot of love down here But I won’t give in without a fight I’m not going to let you die on us tonight… (Chorus)
There is a reason for Everything
There is a reason for EverythingRight after that last version of this recording with Gabe I went back to how I started writing it this afternoon and recorded a full acoustic fingerpicking version which is kind of neat for folks to compare...feel free to critique and tell a preference should this be a full band tune with the fun parts of the recording with Gabe...I'm learning to yes!
When A child laughs
When A child laughsThe second single from NV. This song was written by myself around 2004 and I was definately aiming for a Louis Armstrong or Judy Garland type song they might sing, Micheline Whale did a beautiful vocal on this with great intonation and feeling...the ending was an improvisation that came up and with Grant Morden on guitar Richard Scott on Bass and Scott Phipps on drums and I just more or less acted as a conspiriter emotional level director in the room jumping up and down for energy spots and Scott did a wonderful drum fill. Great drummer! Grant played some great guitar on this and this really was is a musical landscape that he painted. Put it on the end to be a bit like a Hendrix song ending extension section he commonly used or Roxy Tune, like Prarie Rose where mellow and heavy balance one another.
Give me a Minute(I'm working on a Moment)
Give me a Minute(I'm working on a Moment)Here is a song that I wrote thinking of something that Shania Twain could do if she'd rock out a bit on a single...better than that was the fact I was working on a CD at this time with my good friend and the wonderfully Talented Micheline Whale. We recorded what took nearly 3 years from us writing, finding musicians(in and. outs I would add) and then finally settling on a good core of players including Richard Scott on Bass(first)Scott Phipps on Drums(2nd in) and me playing guitar.it took along time from Demo to CD but thanks to Keith Rausch for his patience and honesty. We recorded the CD n his home studio, we both agreed it was better than at mine not only for equipment, but then I wouldn't wear too many hats as I was a part of the band and not just producing. We ended up with some really memorable cuts and I'll put the best on the Cloud - this is the first - inspired by a line a friend said discussing how a guy just couldn't stop being in her face when she was trying to talk to another cute guy...sounds about right. Hope you enjoy!! This is 2005 Love the drumming on this as well as the belt it out vocal and humour Micheline gave my comic lyrics. Great Background vocals all arranged by Micheline
March BluesWere in the long month and we are anxious knowing that the good weather is coming but peoples energies are tapped, everyone needs a holiday and to top it off we just want more and everything right now to change and yikes, stress too.... Dedicated to everyone who wants to get on a plane and head to Hawaii tomorrow and thanks Marie F for reminding me...its the March Blues - and thats all it is!
Take a Ride
Take a RideThis was recorded in the Fall of 2006, We had been working on 10 original songs more regularly in between the late summer and fall at Keiths home studio. Its Keith Rausch on bass), Ron Laroque on Electric Drums(I wish they were acoustic!) and Grant Morden on Guitar with and myself on Guitar and Vocals. This song was inspired by a bass intro that Keith had created and a nice chord progression that worked in the Indian type chant - post Nirvana essence that we sonically built on playing live. The vocals are pretty stretched as I was singing and creating the melody each take but in the end this was our best version of this song. I put the intro on from some samples I found. Grant and I did record some additional guitar parts to give it a spatial sound. I thought Keith would get a kick out of this journey of time and sound...its pretty full and over the top.
Ode to my friend
Ode to my friendThis is a song from 2006. I lost a very good friend that year who was my musical partner in terms of production as well as he constantly reminded me of what he wanted me to do in my songwriting and he always preferred when I leaned to heavier more edgy material. He was a very strong bassist and I loved his driving sound. I was literally caught trying to hold myself up and stay strong when he died suddenly and I miss him still so much as I know I always will. He made me believe. One night not long after losing him I quickly recorded these three tracks of slide guitar, then drums and then a bass track. I tried to play like Keith but if I did I must say it felt like he was in the room. THis hasn't been shared with many people but its time to pay my friend tribute again. In memory of Keith Rausch - Ode to a Friend. At the end you'll hear me make an emotional sound after finishing playing the drum track...I was really trying not to screw up and I'm sure he helped me!
Valerie Valentinewe been keeping a distance but its time we uncover the truth we both know its magnetic and we're stuck in a crush like glue a simple place just a room for me and you a bed with clean sheets we don't need a view lets get loose and unwind looking at each other time to touch and feel it how can I save my Valentine you're mine your mine Valentine mine Valentine I shocked when I spoke outloud I guess you know you knew you were someone in the crowd you made the room go silent my heart beated with a pirate I felt the love surge quietly above my eyes weve been looking at each other from afar its time we get together drive my car get out of this smoky bar will you be my Valentine be my Valentine Valentine if the whole world is watching us let them feel it I know that you've got a heart of gold Be my Valentine just my Valentine be my Valentine
Gonna have a Good Time
Gonna have a Good TimeI guess the message is repeated enough that the idea of it gets across, dance, party, and be rowdy...its always time - so we're gonna have a good time....and who cares whos watchng while we are having the time of our lives
