Two childhood friends, Alex Koronczay and Dalton Townsend, made the conscious decision (sometime around twelfth grade) to meld their unique individual talents into a unified sound. Dalton specialized in lyrics and melody, and Alex’s genius resided in instrumentation—together they were a classic Jagger/Richards duo. Rainswept days were spent in a DIY basement studio writing, exploring genres, pulling from influences, toying with structure, and tampering with language. What resulted was an impressive body of work, a few broken guitar strings, and an artistic yearning that was just getting started.

The debut of Nine Narrows was held at the Railway Club in Vancouver, where they tore “indie night” to absolute shreds (they played a little heavier than anticipated for their first show). It was summer 2022, a week ahead of the show, when Dalton and Alex miraculously scrambled together a rhythm section, comprised of Kyle Hahn and Arthur Speirs—now longtime members and integral arteries of Nine Narrows.

Subsequently, Nine Narrows has garnered the reputation as being one of the most electrifying live bands in the city, distinguished by the depth of their music and their incredible intuition as songwriters.
