Hi,
I am a multi-instrumentalist looking for a new group to make music with.
I’m 38 years old and have been playing music for the past 20 years. I would consider myself an intermediate (moderate by band mix definition) level player on guitar (lead and rhythm), bass, drums, and vocals (lead and/or back up). I am currently learning piano as well but would probably be considered at a beginner (intermediate by band mix definition) stage still. I can sing while playing any of the instruments mentioned. I also enjoy writing lyrics and have done so for dozens of original songs.
I listen to and am interested in anything that is music…. I have a very diverse music library. On any given day you could find me listening to anything from Hank Williams to Tupac to Pantera to Beethoven....no bullsh*t.... I love music.
People have said that the band I am playing with currently sounds like Sublime mixed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sort of funk-blues-reggae-rockish I guess? This band is mostly original music with very few covers. I'm not overly interested in covers but happy to play a few… (or many if the group is really jiving…). That said, I have always enjoyed writing original music more than covering others. When I do approach a cover it's usually with a unique personal twist.
The skill level of future band members is less important to me than commitment and regular rehearsal. I believe if you can show up consistently, the skills/accuracy will develop. My ideal band would set a few goals and work together to achieve them. This doesn't mean we wouldn't drink beer and have fun while we rehearse, but moreso that everyone is pulling for the group equally in the same direction. There can be a lot of extracurricular activities to pursue once the music is up to speed (festival applications, album art, recording, booking gigs, music videos, social media, etc.). In previous bands I have seen other members “only interested in the music”. Without pursuing the extra responsibilities, the band can’t get much further than the basement…. The chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link….
Open to practicing once per week and potentially more if it’s productive and leading somewhere... I can be fairly flexible with rehearsals and I’m happy to try to accommodate others’ busier schedules if need be.
At the end of the day the most important aspect is that the group jives well, enjoys jamming, and makes progress.
