ABOUT

I'm starting a Deep Purple tribute band, Mark II only (including Perfect Strangers), with the focus on playing theatre shows about once a month (I would do more with the right gigs and the right people).

We'd have to play the bars to fine tune the show and tighten up, but I don't want to be a full time Friday/Saturday night band. No covers from other bands to draw people, no half measures, I firmly believe that a killer Mark II tribute band will sell itself. I'm not saying we'll sell out the Rogers Centre, but I know we can draw enough people to do theatres.

If you need to play all weekend, every weekend as your way of earning a living, this is probably not a good fit for you. In the end, I do intend to make good money doing this as I plan for us to be very good and worth every penny to anybody who comes to see us. I have contacts to help with the theatre shows but I'm not going to give details or name drop here.

I'm a family man with a career and a very supportive wife, and my kids are pretty much out of the nest so I have the time to commit to the effort needed to pull this off. I absolutely love my instrument and I continue to work very hard over the years to become the best musician I can be.

But it's a labour of love, and done completely out of enjoyment and fun. I'm NOT Blackmore, nor do I have his personality, but I can play the stuff. I should add, I'm intending this to be as note for note accurate as possible. In other words, this will not be an improvising band. There will be cases where some solos just cannot be copied, such as harmony solos, but what Blackmore and Lord did was golden in my opinion, and if I could do better, I'd be famous by now, so I stick to what he played.

So if you're a good musician/singer and you're looking to have fun playing some amazing music, email me at dhowse @ or call me at 416-937-5484 to talk about it.

Influences

Ritchie Blackmore, all other great musicians/guitarists from the 50's to the 70's, some 80's. I'm mostly a 60'-70's classic rock guy, and proud to say it.

Instrument experience:

Lead Guitar:
Advanced

EQUIPMENT

Guitars:
Fender Strats, Custom Strat with Floyd Rose

Amps:
Marshall Major 100W replica (modded to Blackmore specs), Metroamp '68 Plexi replica (backup), Marshall 4x12's with greenbacks, but don't worry, I have a great attenuator to keep the volume exactly where it needs to be.

I'm as devoted to my tone as my playing. I've been an EET for 25 years and I've been building amps/pedals/guitars since the early 90's. My main amp for this project would of course be the 100W Major. I'll get some clips soon to put my money where my mouth is but in the meantime check out my friend Massimo, who did all of the grunt work to figure out what Ritchie used, and was nice enough to enlighten me.
