I'm primarily a bass player, but I dabble in guitar playing as well, and can make some noises on a harmonica. I haven't gigged in 10 years and am just looking to play some music with some cool people. Please ignore my "preferred" genres listed, as I am willing to play much more than that.
For example, I did not list "Jazz" because I am not the most proficient with changes, and am rusty in the genre, but I did study Jazz bass for 3 years in CEGEP.
I'd love to play anything that piques my interest. That could be bass heavy genres like soul, hip hop, and genres outside of western popular music (colloquially known as "world music"). I also love hardcore punk and slow, and sludgy metal with room for distorted bass.
Genres I'll politely decline to play are classic rock covers, Electric Blues, pop punk, pop.

Influences
Too many to list. I'm really liking Bert Jansch and John Fahey right now. I love Sun 0))) and Earth. Anything James Jamerson played bass on is great. Fela Kuti is a lot of fun. I dig playing basslines to Golden Era hip hop. I got Brazilian roots so Bossa Nova, Samba and almost all forms of Brazilian music are interesting. Music from the Sahel is the most interesting contemporary Guitar based genre in my opinion. Kind of basic, but "Kind of Blue" remains my favourite jazz album in full. Its perfect. And I love hardcore Punk - especially if it is subversive.
Not technical, not wanting to shred. Live for the groove. I just want to make people happy when listening. Not in my 20's anymore so I've lost interest in anything too esoteric in a complicated way for the sake of it. Mongolian Throat singing is esoteric in a good way.
