ABOUT

Funk/Jazz band ISO keyboards (Burnaby)

Currently, we are a 5 piece funk/Jazz/..and maybe a touch of Latin band, consisting of a guitarist, a female singer, a drummer, a sax player, and a bassist.
To complete our setup and start doing corporate gigs that we have a connection for, we need a keyboardist, ideally with a good knowledge of jazz chords, into funky grooves and sounds both electric and acoustic
No beginners, please.
We are moving into more danceable music (but without compromising on the quality of selected songs) to be able to get better gigs.
5 songs an audition will include:
Steely Dan/Josie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL3s_aZXRUE
Steely Dan/Peg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KHQnlFwxzU
Tom Browne/Jamaica Funk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwqXRVAqAzc
Jamiroquai/Cosmic Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2mr2yY5F3c
Angelique Kidjo/Gimme Shelter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhVlFna5DPQ
The focus is to play stuff that few other bands do, while keeping it groove oriented and jazz influenced. We don't care what your age or sex is as long as you got the juice.
The goal is to create and perform original songs (we already have a handful), eventually play gigs and Jazz festivals.
We must start with some covers though, because we need to move on with our list of songs.
Plus covers help establish a relationship with the audience.
Think fun rehearsals but with a goal to do paid gigs.

Some additional influences: Bossa Nova, Rock, Blues, Classic R&B and world music; hard to mention everything we grew up on and learned to love.
Think Steely Dan, Crusaders, Herbie Hancock, Chaka Kahn, Jobim, Jamiroquai, Angelique Kidjo, Beverley Knight, Tower of Power, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Motown.
Tighter grooves, not so much jazz standards. Some bossa to balance upbeat songs.
I know this is a weird combination, but eventually our own style would emerge. we love improvisation, but structures have to be established beforehand.
Finally, here's what we're not into: Metal, Rap, Top 40, Country, Bubblegum Pop, even pure Hard Rock or strictly classical.
Waiting to hear from you
