Lyrically inspired by the industrial rock and avante garde post punk scene in TO and the literate, poetic lyrical content of UK grunge/postpunk band such as Garbage, Siouxsie, and Joy Division, Viola Velvette was formed in 2013. Driven by the ideology that art never expresses anything other than what it knows, our songs strive to speak of the difficult yet common experiences of "going through stuff" that the average person can't say with impunity. Anything beyond what we know is pretentious, and we don't want to insult the listener's intelligence.

Sound-wise, the music itself is drenched in reverb, battered by a storm of steady and unrelenting staccato guitar and driving bassline, which is then contrasted by light and uplifting vocals in the traditional fashion of european female-fronted metal bands that first set precedence for this sort of sound.

Viola Velvette welcome any DAW user for collaborations on remoxes, covers, or new projects. Casually looking for a seasoned drummer and guitarist who share similar influences to contribute as full-time band members. Opening hours are 6pm - 10pm (because, y'know, we have jobs and stuff.)
