VegasNorth Entertainment is excited to host our second set of big band workshops this Spring 2016 in Toronto, ON, Canada, focusing on teaching the intermediate/advanced musician how to handle and be prepared for real life big band situations when they arise, how to play with and in a section, individual responsibilities, ensemble techniques and the overall protocol of playing in a big band.
***Starting this Sunday, I am glad to announce that registration begins for the next 12 weeks. A Second workshop day is also being added on Tuesday evenings from 7 pm – 9 pm The Rehearsal Factory on Geary St. Toronto. Early registration is encouraged so you get a spot in an ensemble for the April sessions.
We currently have spots Trombone, Alto Sax, Bari Sax and Trumpet. Please contact us if you are interested in one of these spots. The rhythm section has been set for both groups BUT we are looking for one more guitarist to join the ensemble***

The workshops are designed to challenge the musicians while having a ton of fun performing great charts. Ensemble blending, timing, stylistic interpretation, reading and balance techniques is only a few topics covered in these workshops.
By the end of the series, the individual will have a stronger understanding of the idioms covered. I strive to motivate and help build the confidence in each musician (while having fun together as a whole)
Our first 2016 weekly series started this January and finishes this month. We are having such a great time and I am very glad the response is so positive with all who come out.
For those musicians that may not be ready yet, we can let you know what you would need to work on to be considered for the next series.

Rates
Breakdown of Fees
$30 per 2 hour workshop.
These fees will help cover the costs for the rehearsal clinic space, use of custom designed charts via VegasNorth Entertainment, the costs of outside clinicians and also the conductor.
April 03– June 19– $30 X 12 = $360
(a special 2016 Summer “Boot Camp” Workshop series is in the works….more info to come in April)
Sept 04 — Nov 20– $30 X 12 = $360
Since these workshops are designed for a big band instrumentation, only traditional big band instruments will be used. (I.e. Trumpet, Alto/Tenor/Bari Sax, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Guitar & Drums) Some positions may be doubled.
*Rhythm Section positions are limited.

A good knowledge and proficiency of the instrument, previous experience in bands and sight reading are all prerequisites to be in the group.
The group size can and will vary depending on everyone’s schedules from week to week but each week will include individual attention as well as full ensemble workouts.
