ABOUT

The son of a big band trumpeter and the grandson and great grandson of Music Hall entertainers ( that's "Vaudeville" in North America!), Stew Brennand started playing guitar in the sixties, singing on the streets of Toronto's Yorkville Village. Influenced by the folk revivalists of the fifties and sixties, he was soon writing his own songs. He played bass for Uxbridge band "this Way Up" in the sixties and did acoustic opening acts and small venues throughout the seventies. Further influences have been: Gordon Lightfoot; Roy Forbes (aka "Bim"); Stan Rogers; Steve Goodman; and virtually any single entertainer who can stand up and take command of the stage.
The eighties was a time for bar scenes and festivals, playing for the annual Marmora Street dance ( an indirect predecessor of the Havelock Country Jamboree), The Alberta Summer Games, The Keyano Theatre series of concerts and numerous local events.
The Nineties were busy times as licensed "busker" for Niagara Parks and entertainer at numerous local venues and events.
An unwilling sabbatical filled the decade following, with voice injuries, but that is now far behind. Renewed song writing is ongoing. The Niagara music scene is vibrant and strong, with great talent of all ages and styles. Peter Haverkamp and Rita Visser have been great inspirations. Stewart is entertaining again and tries to actively encourage the younger generation to become serious minded musicians and entertainers.
