Singer/songwriter/guitarist with active current recording work. See www.schijnsmusic.com for singles, videos, album, lyrics, and background. I've been playing open mics but am seeking a rock band. My own music is very diverse, catchy, melodic, guitar-driven, upbeat, thoughtful, and well-produced. Most of the originals are suited to a rock band context while others perhaps not. Many of the singles have gotten airplay on college radio and internet stations, and some on Sirius XM 21. I am a competent vocalist and rhythm guitarist, with some lead guitar parts. I've been in a jam band but haven't had the opportunity to rock out since moving to Kelowna in 2020. I do not read music and am not a gearhead. I have a deep knowledge of pop music, particularly 1960s; I hosted weekly radio shows (CFRC, CKCU) on obscure 60s music back in the 80s. I'd like to join a band that focuses on originals (mine or others') with selected cover tunes. I am happy to jam, gig periodically, and/or record. I'm just in it for fun. I have a lot of flexibilty in terms of where and when to play / practice. I don't have a suitable band practice space at home.

Influences

Listening to AM radio since 1970 has instilled a love of the pop single, married with the energy of power pop / garage rock / folk rock. So think Ramones, Flamin' Groovies, Weeklings, Paul Collins, Hoodoo Gurus, Paul Revere, surf instrumentals, Nuggets, etc etc. Short, punchy, catchy, harmony, fun. I love a good folk-rock song too (Byrds / 12 string). I'm not that interested in blues, blues rock, metal, prog, jazz, hip hop, rap, post-punk, etc. Also not interested in doing the "same old same old" classic rock cover tunes; I heard plenty of the originals back in the day.
