ABOUT

Obduracy began forming in the summer of 2010. Jeff Udall, Steph Desilets, and Nick Miller began writing material while still full members of Ottawa metal band Drillpoint. All three members left Drillpoint permanently to search for a bassist and singer. In August 2010 Evan Curtis moved from Winnipeg and joined as the band's full time bassist. The band was concurrently recording what would be their debut album, Sunday's Autopsy. In April of 2011 Dean Desarmia was finally selected as the lead vocalist, finishing what is the current lineup for Obduracy.

Sunday's Autopsy, the band's debut full length album, was mixed and mastered by Topon Das of fu*k The Facts. The album was released publicly in digital format on February 15th, 2012, and in physical format March 6th, 2012. The physical copies of the album were released as part of an opening spot for Tampa based death metal band Hate Eternal.

Obduracy's music is generally considered intense death metal blended with melodic themes and thrash metal rhythmic concepts. The music emphasizes tremolo picking, thrash metal guitar riffs, and groove metal choruses, while maintaining death metal characteristics such as blast beats and guttural vocals. The band has also been considered to be influenced by technical death metal and black metal. One especially defining aspect of the band's music is their heavy use of backup singing, often having four vocal lines performed simultaneously during live concerts.

Bio:

Obduracy is the result of a relentless and enduring dedication to creating devastating, unadulterated metal. Inspired by a desire to mold an aggressive, unforgiving, and genuinely evil sound, founding members Jeff Udall (Fumigation/Drillpoint) and Nick Miller(Sonburst/Drillpoint) on guitar, with Steph Desilets (Drillpoint) on drums, began crafting the style that would become Obduracy in summer of 2010. That September, Evan Curtis (Afflicted Faith) moved from Winnipeg and quickly started contributing. Finally, after a long search and many auditions, Dean Desarmia (Syncytia/Epocholypse) rounded the group off in
March, adding demonic vocals to the band?s already dark sound. Characterized by a crushing sonic palette and just coming off a debut album, Obduracy is prepared to take on all challengers.
