ABOUT

Ron Allan has been a bass player and singer most of his life. He played his first professional gig at 15 and never stopped. Most notably, Ron was with The Subhumans, The Scramblers, Shanghai Dog, Corsage, The (legendary) Groovaholics, and The Circus in Flames (Upright bass both live and on the album 'A Little Bit of Gasoline'. Ron has been the fill in of choice for The Pointed Sticks, The Modernettes, The Nervous Fellas, Tim Ray, and , in Austin TX. Myrna Cabellos and Memphis T and the HooDoo Lovers. Let's put it this way, if you needed a bass player that could learn your songs quickly and wouldn't fuck it up, you called Ron. He has done sessions with countless other artists including Banff, Art Bergman, and Barry Greenfield, to name a few.

This brings us to now: After a catalogue of 19 releases with several bands, Ron's solo album 'Two Pennies for the Ferryman' is both a departure from his high voltage past to a sound that has gone from black and white to colour. As usual, he called his friends to help out. Bill Napier-Hemy (The Pointed Sticks) plays guitar with his unique and unparalleled style, Gord Nichol (The Pointed Sticks) adds the textured and authentic organ and piano that is unmistakable and full of emotion, Meredith Bates (award winning violinist) is unmistakable in her approach to taking the songs to another level, and Kevin 'Bubba' Star (Dick Twacey, and countless sessions), provides a country and blues approach that is, well, incomprerable. Phil Smith (Corsage) provided valuable insights and David Lloyd (consultant for any large tour you can name) was instrumental in the mixing of what is a highly textured sound. Just listen and you'll see what I mean.

Ron Allan has played venues from small clubs to arenas, provided film sound tracks for various releases and even acted in some (Terminal City Ricochette, and Short Time). From the Smilin' Buddha to the Commodore Ballroom, the Pacific Coliseum, and the Lenin Sports Arena in Moscow, his attitude is always the same.

After the release of 'Two Pennies for the Ferryman' he is hitting to road once again. These are not venues; these are the temples of his choice. When you see him, walk up and say 'hi'. He is easy to get to know and likes a good laugh.
