Sounds like Tristania, Samael, maybe Arcturus or Dorn. I hate calling my music "gothic" metal, but it's not black metal and death metal is not really right either. Darkest Requiem is best described as melodic metal, all styles dark & gloomy.

Influences
Above all , classical music. Most styles of metal excluding nu-metal, glam metal, and folk metal. Specific bands include Arcturus, Samael, Vampiria, Dorn, Emperor, Therion, The Legion, Faith no More, Carcass, Cradle of Filth, Tristania, Tower, the Kovenant, Graveworm and countless others. Classical music such as Ludwig Van Beethoven, Bach, Motzart...and so on. Modern day gloomy scores by composers such as Wojciech Kilar, Danny Elfman, and Simon Boswell are excellent as well.
