ABOUT

Born into a (large and very loud) musical family in Vancouver, Canada, 20-year-old singer-songwriter Marie Dresselhuis (dress-ul-hice) got her start in music as a classically trained pianist. In childhood, when Marie wasn’t practicing scales or playing in a Brass Quintet with her siblings, she was singing loudly throughout the house or making up soul-crushing bangers while biking around the neighbourhood block for hours on end. At the age of 12, Marie fell on her ukulele, rendering it unusable, and thus picked up her Dad’s guitar and began teaching herself the instrument.

Influenced by artists the likes of Ben Rector, Abby Holliday and Searows, Marie has been writing her characteristically warm, nostalgic and soft tunes since she was 17, exploring her experiences with mental health, growing up and ultimately what it means to be human in a messy world. Currently working on releasing her first project, Marie hopes to continue singing and writing so as to help others heal and imagine through music like she has.
