ABOUT

Kendra Grittani is a talented and experienced young cellist. She started playing at the age of four, and completed her Bachelors in Performance from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in 2015 as well as her Masters in Cello Performance at McGill University in 2018. Kendra completed her studies with accomplished cellist, chamber musician, and professor, Elizabeth Dolin. Her past teachers include Paul Widner, teacher at the University of Toronto and Glenn Gould School, and Juno and Grammy award-nominated cellist Professor Matt Haimovitz.

Kendra has won numerous awards including a Graduate Excellence Fellowship from the Schulich School of Music, 2nd place in the Mississauga Symphony’s Concerto Competition, 3rd place in the Ontario Kiwanis Provincials, the Yo-Yo Ma Foundation Scholarship from the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, the 2008 Carrie Evans Memorial Scholarship from the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Oakville Young Artists Scholarship, and many more. In 2015, as second prize winner in the Mississauga Concerto Competition, Kendra performed the Elgar Concerto with the Mississauga Youth Orchestra. Kendra has performed in various orchestras including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the McGill Symphony Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, where she was the principal cellist for two consecutive summers.? She has also been an active chamber musician during her time at McGill, participating in Sonata class, playing in string trios, piano trios and various string quartets.

Recently, she was the member of a piano trio selected as one of the finalists for the McGill Chamber Competition in 2016. The same trio was also chosen as the Ensemble in Residence at
the Zodiac Chamber Music Festival for the summer of 2017. Recently, after forming the Trio Meira with violinist Bailey Wantuch, and pianist Stephen Nguyen in the Fall on 2017, Kendra’s trio swept the McGill Chamber Music Competition 2018, being awarded 1st place along with a special performance in Tanna Schulich Hall on January 30th, and a week long residency at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria taking place May 2018.
