Exploring Montreal for the autumn (while studying online). Seeking casual home jams and bar sessions/mics: any practice vibing with a solid acoustic guitarist is always worthwhile for a guy like me trying to hone everything else.
Still, I'd be equally keen to gig with a committed partner, and could prep nearly full-time for a week or two.
For set lists I especially revere folk trads wth no known composer, and roots standards (i.e. songs too often covered to leave any one studio track the definitive version). I consider an original perfected when listeners ask me who wrote it... as if it evokes pedigree at first-listen. Most of the rest of my book is underplayed B-sides and deep-cuts; I bore easily covering karaoke-type nostalgia hits, but I'm game to cover the odd post-70s pop or classic rock/country tune, IF we can rearrange 'em to transcend the original release, e.g. strikingly strip-down and unplug to folkify.

Let's reference 'folk' as music that seems older than living memory; 'roots' does not mean Americana as we aren't American; 'country' does not mean suburbanite soft-rock. Plenty of acoustic-guitar pop is not at all folk music (guitar crooners e.g. Passenger, Ed Shereen, etc); electric folk can and does exist (Fairport Convention).
Pandering to nostalgia for radio pop within living memory (i.e. post-60s) would be Oldies music not Folk music.
