ABOUT

Sea to Sky is a post-alternative rock project from North Vancouver, Canada consisting of multi-instrumentalist Jeff Douglas.

While it was formed from a collection of unfinished instrumental efforts, Sea to Sky marks a full-circle return to melody-oriented lyrical music, a circle that took many years to pass.

Conjuring the tones of ambient music fused with the energy of riff-oriented, guitar-driven stadium rock, Sea to Sky seeks to extend beyond the typical rock mold.

Everything is rooted in experimentation and sound manipulation, from the initial approach, to song structure and instrumentation. The belief is that the studio is another instrument to be utilized in different ways to create a rich and evocative sonic landscape.

Dissatisfied with the limitations of traditional rock approach, Sea to Sky seeks to employ a tapestry of sounds and textured layers largely exhibited by the work of modern film composers such as Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Weaving in the rock influences of Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Killers and Muse, the experience rounds out to encompass a range that utilizes the full spectrum of sound.

The premise is simple, music is a refuge and a voice that unites humanity in a world that is increasingly becoming divided and alienated despite our technological advances.

Recorded by WCMA-nominated engineer and producer Andy Schichter at Park Sound Studio in North Vancouver, Sea to Sky draws lyrical inspiration from the tapestries created by writers T.S. Elliot and Robert Frost.

Love, loss, disillusionment, the existential crisis of aging, social division and isolation permeate the lyrical content as artfully as the natural backdrop of the Pacific Northwest. However, there is always some cause for hope and redemption right under the surface that challenges the listener to persevere and embrace a deeper narrative of self and humanity.
