ABOUT

Metaspherical

In an ever-changing music industry plagued by mediocrity and increasing economic difficulties, metal music is in dire need of a revitalization. The multi-contributor metal project Metaspherical offers a solution. Shrugging off today's obstacles without a flinch, Metaspherical forges a new path for musicians and their working methods alike.

Creator and producer Jason Morley of Nanaimo, British Columbia began the project with the intent to demonstrate that artists from around the world could play together, despite working in different countries or subgenres of metal. To do this, he enlisted the help of some of the most accomplished names in metal worldwide, and the lineup has since snowballed to a monstrous extent. As of now, featured artists include former and present members of Atheist, Cynic, Death, King Diamond, Origin, Steve Vai's band, Testament, Voivod, and Zimmer's Hole, and many other amazingly talented artists. This host of incredible contributors hail from or reside in a plethora of countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Cuba, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, and the United States. Together, these musicians bring aspects of nearly every subgenre of metal to the table to assemble a much more enormous picture - a collection of music worthy of a true brotherhood of metal.

To build such an ambitious project, Jason began by tossing old methods aside. For this first album, he began with a rough structure of guitar parts with accompanying percussive ideas. Other artists worldwide then received this recording and tailored their own styles and approaches to write accompaniments. Ideas were shared back and forth via the internet (sometimes even going through several different musicians) until a fitting, worthwhile vision was realized. Vancouver-based producer/engineer Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, Gwar, West Of Hell) then stepped in to finish the process with his years of experience in engineering.

The ideals behind Metaspherical encompass more than just music; Jason is very proud to be partnering with the philanthropic charity organization Sweet Relief for this project. The charity helps heal musicians in need, a cause that Jason identifies with closely. Currently in the recovery process after a terrible head injury, he required no less than seven brain surgeries, during which time persistent infections necessitated removing a portion of his skull for an 18-month period. Beyond the obvious financial costs, Jason found that the damage to his tactile ability as a musician was beyond measure. It took him years of mental and physical clawing to regain his musical abilities, despite being classically trained from a young age. All too familiar with the personal anguish and professional distress that this slow healing process can cause, Jason became determined to make a difference for musicians in similar positions.

Metaspherical - and the percentage of its proceeds that will be donated to Sweet Relief - is the result. So join us in casting off the chains of the old conventions and expectations.

Join us in this incredibly diverse musical journey. Join us in this brotherhood of metal. This is Metaspherical.
