ABOUT

i need to start with a drummer, and if it works out then maybe we can add some more musicians. i have a lot of music prewritten, and am essentially looking for a drummer to take a look at it. this is an example of the sound i'm going for:

the drummer i'm looking for should be rooted in a punk rock ethos, but have some kind of formal jazz training and an interest in electronic music, as they will be performing alongside a variety of electronic noises, including some percussion samples. i understand that most talented drummers like metal, but i have a specific disdain for metal and i am looking for somebody that is going to minimize metal drumming cliches.

these songs are currently instrumental, and will probably stay that way. they were written in the mid 00s. my interest currently is strictly to work out these older tracks, and not to write new music.

i make no pretensions to being a singer, and have little interest in singing. my politics are extreme left in a conventional anarchist/marxist sense that may confuse people, who might decide i'm right-wing; when i add lyrics to my music, they are always spoken word and strictly politically focused.

that said, my primary interest at the moment is simply working the tracks out with a drummer, and if we find ourselves in the presence of a singer, then so be it. adding a vocalist to my music is not my interest, currently.

i have a large archive of recorded music, none of it performed live. some of it may be converted/re-arranged to a live band setting, should this get off the ground. it is also useful for general research on myself as an artist:

i need very serious inquiries only, please. this should be fun, but it is necessary that you enjoy challenging yourself. i'm not very patient; i'm going to yell at you to be better, and you're going to need to accept it.

Influences

my influences are exceedingly wide, and i hope you can tell. the sound i want is something like the bombasticness of early queen spliced with the experimental quality of or early 90s skinny puppy. the end result should be gigantic, epic and very difficult to actually listen to. the closest thing i can think of, in terms of an active band, is the reformed swans, but i'm looking for something more dynamic and intricate than swans, who tend to get distracted by aimless piddling. the contemporary artist i've been listening to most lately is son lux.

EQUIPMENT

i'm primarily a guitarist with a sufficient amount of studio gear that's trying to take a big studio project (that i've been creating in since the 90s) to a live setting. my gear is strictly studio-focused. i have not been lucky enough to find like-minded people through my life and have played almost no shows. it is going to take months worth of practicing before we can start talking about gigging - this is not plug and play, this is going to require a lot of unpaid hard work with no clear rewards and will be frustrating as it happens, because i'm a drama queen control freak and you're going to have to deal with it. i would probably play through an amp simulator and want to send it out through a pa or a very flat bass or keyboard amp. i have no interest in guitar amplifiers. i have some guitars and some effects, but i'm not going to list them here.
