I started drumming to the insane beat of The Who's Keith Moon. I mellowed it down and focused on the rudiments a few months later, having discovered The Tragically Hip's drummer Johnny Fay. After that I amped it up a little bit, and played the pulsing techniques and quick licks known to Chicago's Danny Seraphine. I nearly went back to Keith Moon's style once again when I dipped into some early albums from Santana; their drummer, Michael Shrieve, has brought some awesome energy to my style. Right now, I try to keep an even balance of calm and wild playing, to keep a tight rhythm while delivering the energy of true classic rock.
