ABOUT

Blaine was born in the small rural community of Morden, Manitoba. The son of a minister, Blaine naturally had a lot of stage time, a lot of criticisms and the comfort of performing in front of an audience. This led to high school theatre, musical theatre, and soon gave way to co-hosting an independent high school television show broadcast on local cable with friend and fellow actor Scott Bairstow (Party Of Five, The Postman, Wolf Lake).
Hiring a voice coach for his performances in operettas and attending acting classes and workshops led to a nomination for best actor in the M.A.C. Theatre Awards and Blaine relocated to Vancouver to expand his career options. Struggling as an actor, Blaine started in the Vancouver music scene in 1994 fronting a band called Mother Made This. The band developed quickly by playing alongside bands such as DDT, Damn The Diva, Noise Therapy, and Flybanger and in 1996 had a single released onto the Turtle Records Compilation Volume 1 under the band's new name, 351 Cleveland. Also in 1996 Blaine moved on from the band, citing personal differences and found a new home with new band mates in a Vancouver based quartet called Flux. The band had an intense work ethic and the focus was entirely on breaking away from mainstream radio rock at the time and developing the next great thing. This would prove to be the breaking point only a short 2 years later, when the band dissolved. In 1999, Blaine was invited to audition for the band Twist, being developed by a small independent label called Igroove Recordings. The band had the added appeal of having two former members of the platinum selling Canadian rock band, Econoline Crush, while the president of Igroove was a major contributor of the song writing and the band's guitarist. Two Canadian tours, two music videos, and multiple media events followed, including soundtrack work (Ripper: Letters from Hell, NSX 5: Lights Out) and a live national television performance on Canada's premier late night talk show, Open Mike with Mike Bullard, Canada's version of the David Letterman Show. In the late summer of 2001, the band split with the label due to financial mismanagement, and subsequently decided to call it quits. In the summer of 2003 Blaine started recording with his current band, Tourist, and began shopping a three song demo to industry by December 2003/January 2004. Interest in the band grew and Tourist won the Vancouver Seeds competition with 99.3 CFOX. Previous winners include Nickelback, Default, and Matthew Good. Also competing in international song contests, Tourist was winning from New York to Los Angeles. This led to being picked up by veteran management in San Diego. In August 2004, the band went into the Warehouse Studio in Vancouver to work with veteran Mike Fraser (AC/DC, SLIPKNOT, SATRIANA, METALLICA, AEROSMITH, HEDLEY, HINDER) on their full length release. In 2005, Tourist headlined shows on the Budweiser True Music Tour that was promoted across Canada. Their debut CD The Relevance Of Motion was released in Europe and S. America Sept. 29/2006 with major European label, MTM/Psychoactive.
