Bruce Whetstone is an American bass player and singer whose musical journey spans decades. With a foundation in classical choral training, including performances with renowned groups including the Iowa State Singers, and the London Philharmonic and St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Philharmonic Orchestras, his early training in guitar, piano and wind instruments, has allowed Bruce to develop the versatility to perform in multiple music genres.
His foray into the rock scene began at the tender age of 13, when he joined a band that had professional management and an agent, foreshadowing his future success. Bruce's association with Todd Rundgren and Utopia has been particularly noteworthy, serving as the music director and fan-band organizer for several of Rundgren's summer music camps and week-long birthday celebrations.
From 2015 to 2023, Bruce lent his talents as the bass player and backup singer for the acclaimed Todd/Utopia tribute band, Secret Society. His skilled rendition of Jimi Hendrix covers, performed alongside Prairie Prince and the late Jesse Gress, earned him the affectionate moniker "Brucie Hendrix" from Todd Rundgren himself.
Beyond his high-profile collaborations, Bruce's extensive credentials include years of recording, session work, showcases, and live performances in the vibrant music scenes of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. He has worked with esteemed acts like The Crossroads Project and The New Hip Replacements, among others.
Currently based in the Pacific Northwest, Bruce continues to showcase his musical prowess, collaborating with bands in Vancouver, B.C., including Bowie The Tribute, Razamanaz, Witness Protection and Van City Vice.
