Jay studied music at Humber College in Toronto. His major instrument was guitar, and his major subject was composition. He graduated in 1997, and received the Gordon Delamont Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in composition.
Jay is an educated, well-practiced musician. His playing is a tasteful blend of groove, feel and technique. Primarily a rock/pop/funk guitarist, Jay also has experience performing jazz, country, folk, heavy metal, and latin. Also an accomplished vocalist, Jay possesses a true rock & roll voice. He has a great deal of experience singing lead as well as harmony.
Jay currently performs up to five nights a week as guitarist and bandleader in his working nightclub band, Sonic Playground. The band performs at in-and-around the Toronto Area at nightclubs, casinos, bars/pubs, as well as occasional corporate events and private parties. Their material consists of dance, r&b, pop, retro, disco, funk, new rock, classic rock.
Jay also played guitar with the international dance-pop band, Graffiti Park; he played guitar and sang lead in the three-piece cover band Knuckleball; he was in the backup band for tribute acts such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera; he performed in the progressive rock trio Eye Rhyme for over three years; he played guitar on tour with country artist Chris Syrie; he performed for several months in the eleven-piece r&b group Jive Turkeys; he played briefly in the rock-industrial band Pin; and appeared on Margaret Wysman's debut CD. During his many years as a working musician, Jay has performed in the United States, Mexico, the Middle East, and toured Canada numerous times.
Jay also works as a guitar instructor, session musician, and voice-over announcer.
