ABOUT

The Wrong Johnsons are looking for a new member. The songs I've posted are old live-off-the-floor recordings, but are still more or less representative of much what we do (as well as my poor engineering and mixing skills!). As you'll see from the pics we're not kids. We've all played with other bands over the years. (We're also a little overeducated, but in a good way.) We gig locally, attract decent crowds, and are very interested in gigging regularly once COVID lifts. At the same time, we have day jobs and are not looking to tour. It's all about creating something together and playing music, and ours is all original.

So why are we looking for a new member? Our lead guitar player died and our violin/vocals guy left for health reasons. We can work as a trio but we really miss what a fourth member can bring -- which is a lot both in terms of sound and also creativity.

We're looking for an experienced musician who has some chops and can bring something to the band. This is to say the person and what they can offer is more important to us than the instrument they play. If we can make good music together, we're happy. This being said, someone who can handle harmony vocals would be a big plus. A guitar player might make a more seamless transition for us as we have been basically a rock band. But we're wide open to experiment. Got a crazy idea? Got some chops? We're interested and like the challenge.

Influences

We're pretty ADD. My son tells me we sound like a distorted 70s band. Love child of Tom Petty, They Might be Giants, Dave Matthews, and Lucinda Williams? Part of the reason that's hard to answer this question is that what we sound like now is a negotiated middle ground between the various influences and musical interests of the band members. This will undoubtedly shift somewhat with a new member.

Members Of Band

Brent - Bass & Guitar
Adam - Drums
Frank - Vocals, Guitar, Banjo, Guitarilla, Bass, Tenor Guitar, Cigar Box Guitar, Cello, and a bit of blues harp.

EQUIPMENT

We've got a small but decent rehearsal space where we can record and have a head-phone hub. For what it's worth, I play a very pretty Tele Thinline Elite on a Fender Twin and some other vintage amps. My acoustic is a much prettier Beardsall multi-scale B series steel string.
