ABOUT

A songwriter of breathtaking range, Ballantyne is one of those rare musical talents who is perfectly happy working behind the scenes to create songs that capture the hearts and imagination of music lovers, and hearing them interpreted or re-interpreted through the voices of others. ~ Lithium Magazine

If songs were grains of salt, Patrick Ballantyne is the salt shaker. Songs appear to flow from Patrick Ballantyne effortlessly. A sought after co-writer with cuts on over 10 albums and 2 solo albums of his own, his catalogue is continually expanding. Playing it safe as a lawyer by day, Ballantyne reserves risk-taking for his music. Never content to replicate, Patrick is innovative and experimental. He blends and bends genres, while maintaining an emphasis on melodies and lyrics. His body of work spans multiple genres, yet every song contains a deeply personal and soulful aspect.

Patrick Ballantyne performs songs from his recent album "days of Rain" as well as songs that he has co-written with the likes of Big Sugar and Meredith Shaw.

Daily Grind (601 Sommerset West, Ottawa)

Supported by a full band, Patrick Ballantyne officially releases his new album, Days of Rain. Usually content sitting behind the curtain watching his songs take flight through others (Tim Chaisson, Meredith Shaw, Big Sugar, Shane Chisholm), sometimes he feels the need to step forward and fly on his own. His latest album, Days of Rain, is an intensely personal portrayal of overcoming struggle and dark days to find the light on the other side. Sonically, the songs of Days of Rain are influenced by Motown, the Beatles, Pink Floyd and classic singer-songwriters. Lyrically, however, the themes of loss and renewal make clear that Ballantyne is channeling ‘soul music.’
