ABOUT

I was busy as a substitute drummer in the late 70s and most of the 80s - early 90s. I played a good number of styles convincingly and I was well respected for my dependability/professionalism. Worked everywhere from the Cecil to the Jubilee. Then business and family etc. got in the way of life (drums). Now I am on the comeback trail; practicing at least 10 hours a week, updating equipment. I would like a performance goal to work towards - something to make my hard work seem more worthwhile and purposeful. I don’t have a lot of patience for bands that seem to exist more for their own weekly social / beer drinking rehearsals. Prefer to have a disk (file) of songs, learn them and then get together to fine tune performance aspects. I tend to gravitate towards the harder / more aggressive / semi-alternative forms of rock. I would favor drumming for original music.

Influences

Start with LED Zeppelin, King Crimson, Van Halen, Allman Brothers. Add a a few years of jazz and fusion. A sprinkle of electronic - beat music and a dash of funk. If it is good music and it grooves then I will love playing it. With covers I stay somewhat true to the original but I don’t shy away from adding my own signature to the music - which tends to mean playing a bit busier - but still with the groove and song first in mind.

EQUIPMENT

I have around four acoustic kits and five kits worth of cymbals. I have extensive other electronics that I use for my interest in supplemental percussion and synthesis - Yamaha, Roland, Nord, Moog, Soundcraft. I have an extensive collection of microphones, boards, amps, monitors etc.
