About
Hi there! I'm looking for fellow musicians for the spring and summer - fun, casual, semi-serious. I can't commit to a serious band - my job takes me out of town often, unpredictably, and for long periods (usually in the winter).
But when I'm in town, I'd like to find fellow musicians of any age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, etc. to play rock and roll with. I learned to play via punk rock, so my technique is exuberant and sloppy. I'm open to plenty of different styles/genres (see influences below).
My e-mail is jgrunerud@ g m a i l . c o m if you wanna get in touch.
Influences
Punk rock: mostly old stuff, nothing too screamy or hardcore
(Ramones, Clash, Misfits, SNFU, Vindictives...)
Reggae: pretty much anything from the 70s
(Burning Spear, Linval Thompson, Junior Murvin, Lee Perry, Bob Marley...)
Ska: first-wave and second-wave stuff; I'm familiar with the mid-90s ska-punks too
(Specials, Skatalites, DHC, English Beat, Selecter...)
Surf/Instrumental: this is the stuff that made me love guitar in the first place
(the Ventures, Dick Dale, Shadowy Men, Reverb Syndicate...)
New Wave/80s: Yep, seriously
(Blondie, DEVO, Go-Gos, Cyndi Lauper...)
Oldies Rock 'n roll: I guess this is different from what most folks consider "Classic Rock"
(Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, CCR, Shangri-Las, Beatles...)
... and anything else with energy, style, conviction, and heart.
(Except metal. Sorry folks, I don't do metal.)
Equipment List
electric bass, electric guitar, amp.
(Further info for gear-heads, which I am not [I'm a lefty, which has made me a gear minimalist]: Ernie Ball/Music Man Stingray 4-string bass and Epiphone SG guitar, both played through a mid-70s Traynor Bassmaster head with 1x15 cab. What else.... Fender acoustic 6-string, 1x12 Fender "Hot" combo amp good for vox or whatever, a tuner, and a "Sputnik" pedal that does some sort of compression/enhancement to cover my sloppy picking...)
